Frequently Asked Questions
Insurance & Payment Questions
Do you accept insurance?
Physio One is an out of network provider for all insurances except Medicare.
Most insurances have a very low reimbursement rate for physical therapy services which in turn is why most larger clinics see more than one patient at a time.
I choose to see my patients one on one to ensure the highest quality of care is being delivered in the timeliest fashion. I want to get you back to the activities you enjoy.
How do I pay for physical therapy?
Because Physio One is an out of network provider, I will provide you with a superbill that you may submit to your insurance provider for out of network reimbursement. Most insurances have an out of network deductible that must be met first and then the coverage can be up to 80%.
If you have a high deductible plan, it can be much more cost effective to see an out of network provider because the cost per visit will be significantly lower than paying the cost of a visit from an in-network provider.
Accepted payment methods are cash, check, credit card, HSA cards, flex spending cards.
General Questions
Do I need a prescription or referral for physical therapy?
No. In the state of Georgia, we have direct access unless you have Medicare. Medicare
requires a prescription for initiation of treatment.
Direct access allows me to see you soon after an injury or when the pain begins so I can help you resolve the symptoms quicker and get you back to activity.
Because I believe in a collaborative approach to therapy, I am happy to send a copy of your evaluation to the MD. If you don’t have an MD, I am happy to work with you to find one that best suits your needs.
Can I go anywhere for physical therapy?
Yes! When your MD recommends physical therapy and gives you a referral you are able to choose where you want to receive your care.
How often do you typically go to physical therapy?
Great question! Most higher volume clinics will recommend you come to see them 2-3x/week to ensure they are getting the most amount of reimbursement per patient.
I believe in a lower volume of care in that I see most of my clients 1x/week and offer them an individualized plan that they will work on at home in between sessions.
Life is busy! I want to use your time as efficiently as possible.
How many visits should I expect to have in physical therapy?
Whereas I cannot predict how many sessions it will take to reach your goals, most of my clients are seen for about 4-6 or 6-8 sessions per injury or diagnosis.
I understand taking care of your body is ongoing so I also offer and often recommend regular “tune up” sessions to ensure you are maintaining your gains and moving forward in your goals.
What should I wear to physical therapy?
Comfortable loose clothing. Ideally, shorts and a tank top or t-shirt. I will want to see how your body moves.
What are you doing about Covid-19?
Because I am a health professional, I take Covid-19 very seriously. All items used will be sanitized and cleaned prior to, during, and after your visit to ensure we are maintaining a clean and sanitary environment. Covid-19 precautions are always changing.
Trust that I will always be staying up with the current research and precautions and adjusting protocols as needed to maintain the highest standard of care.
Dry Needling Questions
What is dry needling? How can it help me?
Dry needling is the practice of using a small monofilament needle (similar to an acupuncture needle) to penetrate the tissue of the skin and go directly into the muscle belly. Dry needling is highly effective in the treatment of trigger points and restoring normal neuromuscular function.
Restoring neuromuscular function will improve overall function of the muscle as it relates to movement. In other words it improves the quality of the tissue by releasing the tension and improving circulation to the area so the muscle can return to proper function.
Many times the muscle will give a “twitch response” which is just the muscle responding to the needle insertion and “resetting”.
Dry needling is not acupuncture.
Dry needling does require a doctor’s prescription.
What are some common conditions that are treated with dry needling?
Dry needling is a highly effective treatment for pain that is caused by muscle tightness or soft tissue restrictions. Some common conditions and diagnoses are:
- Tennis and golfer’s elbow
- Neck and shoulder pain/tightness
- Plantar fasciitis
- Low back pain
- IT band syndrome
- Knee pain
- Hip pain, bursitis
- Shin splints
- Headaches
Mobile Practice Questions
What does it mean to be a concierge mobile practice?
It means that I come to you! The way care is being delivered is constantly changing. I recognize that many of my patients have busy lives so I take the commute out of the equation for you. I bring all necessary items to your house.
In some cases, equipment may be required beyond the scope of what I am able to bring to you which is why I have gym partnerships across the area where we are able to meet.
Are you in my area?
I deliver care within approximately 30 minutes of my home office in East Cobb, GA. Beyond that scope, additional fees may apply if outside our service area. If I am not able to meet your needs, I am happy to recommend another professional that may be closer to your home. Call me and let’s talk about what you are looking for!
